A Hackneyed Metaphor For Life

On the way home from Houston, at oh-Gawd-thirty this morning, Trista and I encountered numerous pea soup thick banks of fog. Visibility dropped to a few yards instead of a few miles, and what landscape we could see was reduced to unfinished brush strokes on a mostly blank canvas. Then, when it got really worrisome, the fog bank would end for a few more miles, before we found ourselves entering another.

I'm sure there's a nifty metaphor for life in there. Too bad I'm too tired to parse it out (having gotten up at oh-Gawd to be on the road at oh-Gawd-thirty), which might be an even better metaphor for life...
