there!, Hello

High Hopes

So, this weekend I had conceived of writing much more than I actually did. What with operation Mega Cleaning, my first foray into really playing City of Heroes (on Saturday, with friends from MI), as well as a bunch of random factors. However, by last night I had a nice number of words done, and a nice sense of accomplishment.

Watched the recut version of Brian Helgeland's crime opus Payback (DVD title: Payback Straight Up: The Director's Cut), last night. What a difference. Where the theatrical release was a typical "Mel Gibson is really a good guy" flick, the recut version cuts much closer to the ambiguous and violent cinema of the 1960s/1970s as well as the hard edged novel source material by Richard Stark (aka Donald Westlake). From ho-hum to wow.

In other news, I actually opened my copy of Fallout 3 (purchased last Tuesday) and put the disc into the XBox 360. The title screens look quite lovely. Maybe some day this week I'll actually get to play the thing. (Actually, at most it'll be an hour tonight or more on Friday afternoon, what with all the writing I need to get done. Did I mention that I'm doing NaNoWriMo in addition to several projects with actual deadlines? Nothing like driving one's self insane, huh? In truth, my writing schedule has been getting a bit lax of late, I'm hoping this will rejuvenate it. We'll see where my mind is come December 1...)

On the NaNoWriMo front, I finished the prologue last night and dipped my toes into Chapter 1. Total word count:
