there!, Hello

Book Meme

1. Grab the nearest book.
2. Open the book to page 123.
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4. Post the text of the next 4-7 sentences on your LJ along with these instructions.
5. Don't you dare dig for that "cool" or "intellectual" book in your closet! I know you were thinking about it! Just pick up whatever is closest (unless it's too troublesome to reach and is really heavy. Then go back to step 1).

Here's Mine:

You don't pick ary guitar or banjer do ye?

No, Holme said.

If'n ye did I'd give ye one of them there rattles to put in it.

Rattles.

Them snake rattles yander. Folks that picks guitar or banjer are all the time puttin em in their guitar or banjer. You say you don't play none?

This is taken directly from Outer Dark by Cormac McCarthy.

If you haven't read this novel, I recommend it. It's alternately quite funny and chilling. I finished it yesterday and am still reeling. I feel somewhat bad for Deborah LeBlanc's latest horror novel (Morbid Curiosity), which has the misfortune to be next on my reading list...

Spacesuits and Sixguns, Issue 3? Joy!

After some technical difficulties, the latest issue of Spacesuits and Sixguns is now online. Free-to-read pulp fiction goodness? Hooray! Go, read!

Amongst the other delights, you'll also find my latest story "Betty in Sideshow". Joy! Along with a somewhat fun author's photo (pulp fiction style, straight from one of shogunhb and shadowravyn's Hallowe'en parties), the story features an illustration by Chad Beatty!

In a nutshell, this is my post-apocalyptic road story with mutant Morlocks, malevolent biker gangs, a very different sort of elephant gun, an H.R. Giger-style take on the Irish Fomor myth, and a plucky protagonist (with attitude to spare). Doesn't every speculative fiction author need one of these stories under their proverbial belt?
