there!, Hello

It's been 51 days since I've used my credit cards. Actually, I've gone and chopped them up. Took me a while to really come to terms with the fact that I have a spending problem. I've mentioned it in this journal before, but I never took the thing all that seriously. Well, I have a problem, and I'm addressing it one day at a time. Damn that sounds like a cliche, but it's terribly true. I haven't gone spending cold turkey. No no. I still get an 'allowance' that I can save up and spend on the occasional book or DVD or Subway sandwich. I didn't realize how out of control my life really was, until I started to get things back together again. Thanks, hntrpyanfar for sticking with this old dog while he learns some new tricks. ::ha:: I've been a real fiend to be around, hopefully I'm better now than I was 46 days ago...

This long weekend also found me finally revisiting my writing schedule again. For the last month-and-a-half, I've been moody (alternating between depression and anger) and absolutely distracted. Couldn't dance (did you know Trista and I are Tango-ers?) and I couldn't finish anything new. Couldn't concentrate on writing to do much more than edit old material. Well, that's a'changing.

Bad news is, I'm eating more. One lousy habit slipping in to fill the vaccuum left by another. Good side of this bad news is: I'm aware that I'm eating more, and I'm trying to eat more good things. Less meat, more vegetables. Like Frank Pollan (writer for the New York Times Magazine) advises in his article Unhappy Meals: "Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants."

I try, I try.

Fiction Update

On the brighter side of things: I've got a story coming out in the July 2007 issue of Spacesuits and Sixguns, a fiction e-magazine that's absolutely free to read. My story is a pulpy, adventure yarn about a postapocalyptic driver named Betty entering a deadly little corner of the earth called Sideshow. Check out "Betty in Sideshow" this summer.
