there!, Hello

Nervous Day

So, I am feeling overly sensitive today. Maybe this has to do with what I was reading last night, or the fact that I nabbed two more rejections this week (one for my "Dead Man's Eyes" fantasy story, the other for my "Seaborn" submission to the 20 Epics antho) and am sending out two stories today (a classic-style erotic piece to Nancy Jackson's Provocative Notes antho, and "Dead Man's Eyes" to Realms of Fantasy magazine).

What was I reading last night? Fear in a Handful of Dust: Horror as a Way of Life by Gary A. Braunbeck. An excellent book, except that it pisses me off to no end because the man writes so frigging well. Non fiction, partially autobiography, partially overview of horror cinema and lit, partially a book about how he came to write his novel The Indifference of Heaven, which I read under the title of In Silent Graves and slammed, a while back. I really need to give that book another day in court. Perhaps I was not ready for it (I know I wasn't). It snuck in under the radar, while I was chugging through the stack of Leisure Horror novels, and I'm not sure what I was expecting, but it wasn't that... I need to reread that novel with a more open mind.
